Review - Restaurant To Another World

I'd totally place a where's the plot? meme right now, but I actually love the anime so, nevermind. Plus, I also decided to make reviews of anything I've watched no matter how late I am to the party (because you know, RTAW is so last 2017). Still, I hope you do find this review interesting, or at least I wish it could rekindle some old memories you have when you were watching this anime.

Let's start with the bad things first.

#1 There's no real plot. If you were expecting some actual plot like "an owner trying to save his restaurant" or "an assassin demon lady gathering info from her customers", there's none of it here. In fact, the show may be a bit boring to most people out there.

In fact, I could summarize an entire episode in a few words:
   (1) Customer discovers the restaurant, either by himself or through an acquaintance + backstory.
   (2) Customer makes an order.
   (3) Customer is shocked by how delicious the food is.
   (4) Customer promises to come back to eat.

Yup. That's it. We may be treated by a backstory here and there, but eh -_-. The whole anime's so random and without direction lololol.

#2 Excessive monologuing about food. Yes, I do realize that this cannot be helped. This is a food anime after all. But, there's a limit to everything. We already know that the food is going to taste great, so there's no need to spend minutes to describe how it tastes! Well, describing the taste isn't bad and all, but I do think it's more interesting if they described the food preparation more. Because, I repeat, we already know it tastes good!

#3 Half-assed world-building. The setting involving the restaurant was perfect for me. The problem lies with the fantasy world. There were a number of times where it was narrated that demons and half-elves alike were beings not welcome to the society. It would've been nice if they delved a lil' bit further about the topic.

That's actually the only issues I have, so here are the pros!

#1 Lovable characters. I did mention that the anime provides some sort of backstory to some characters. Those backstories, although not story-heavy, is kind of cute and sort of heartwarming. We get to see different types of creatures and we get to know the reason behind their favorite dishes :)

#2 It's relaxing. Honestly, I'm not really a fan of slice-of-life anime. I guess the only reason I even watched this is because it was mixed in with a sprinkle of fantasy. Still, despite the lack of plot and the anime's shortcomings, I do not regret watching it at all.

The slice-of-life genre actually fared well with the story. The characters' debates with each other, their look of happiness whenever their orders arrive, and many other common life occurrences are totally kind of nice.

#3 Satisfying food porn. If you're looking for a food anime that could make your mouth water, then this could be it. I was totally wishing the restaurant was real the whole time. I'd totally spend my money there ^^

All in all, I do think it was good. Good enough that I can sit through it smiling. It does have its fair share of faults, nevertheless, it was entertaining. If I sound like I have nothing but complains regarding the series, please don't get me wrong. It was really nice, its just that it could've been better.

Would I recommend this to you? Sure, if you like this genre. Would I watch it again? Probably not. Well, that's all. How about you? What do you think about it?

P.S.
I'm screaming right now. I actually had this lil' bit of crush with the restaurant's Master lololol. Imagine my ecstasy when I found out that he has the same voice actor (Junichi Suwabe) with my bae Nami-sensei. AHHHHHHHHHHH!! O////O Oyajis for the win!
